Links: Their importance in SEO and types (inbound and outbound)

Links are a very important part on any site to increase its usability and resourcefulness. For the success of any site it’s essential that it provides the links to other related sites at the right places. Links help searchers by leading them from one site to another related site without searching anything themselves. It makes work easier for both search engines and searchers. Furthermore the value of a page is determined by the number of links present in that page as they magnify the variety and sources of information being provided by that site, s o it helps in improving the ranking of a site as well.

Links are also helpful in making the search engine determine what  a particular page is about. If the link has a key word included in it , it makes searching all the more faster and convenient  for the search engine as well as the searcher. Links are vital for search engines in indexing pages, finding out what the page is about and determining their popularity. If provided with anchored text, they can also tell where the link is leading to and therefore saving the user from getting mislead towards wrong sites.

Links can be internal or external, inbound and bound. External links should be used carefully in the right places. It’s preferable to put external links at the end of the article in the external link section rather than in between the article as that disrupts the articles to some extent. Inbound links are important in determining the popularity of a site by search engines. They are usually placed in other sites to direct searchers from others site to one’s own site. It greatly helps in improving the rank of a site. The ways to receive inbound links are many; like making your site open for reviews, involving your site in discussions and blogs and thus contributing to them, exchanging one’s own links with other related sites, getting links in exchange for free website hosting space  and  encouraging one’s site visitors to link to it etc.

Outbound links means those links which lead a site’s visitor to other sites. Even outbound links can help in increasing a sites ranking. The point to be remembered is that the outbound links should be directed towards reputed and reliable sites so as to maintain the sites standard and also it should be made certain that none of the outbound links are broken.

Anchor text or link title is another part of links which helps in deciding the ranking of a page or site by search engines. They are click-able texts with a hyperlink and usually contain less than 60 characters.  It’s not essential that every link should have anchored text as it makes the link very obvious.

Outbound links and inbound links, both are vital for a sites popularity  and the presence of one without the other is useless as they mutually work towards the betterment of a site as well as for the ease of searchers and search engines.
